Technology Description

Residential broadband access is an under-developed technology that has the potential for profound positive effects on people’s lives and on the nation’s economy. While economies of scale have successfully enabled the backbone networks to grow rapidly, the cost of deploying broadband access networks with current technology remains prohibitive for the average household in the U.S. Furthermore, it is not clear whether prevailing paradigms for network architecture are sufficient for addressing the scale and unique requirements that are inherent in the support of ubiquitous broadband access applications.

 Inventors at UC San Diego have invented a way to improve the performance of residential broadband access by exploiting developments in wireless communications technology.
