This cell line expresses the alpha and beta subunits of LH as well as GnRH receptor mRNAs, but not the beta subunit of FSH. Administration of gonadotropin releasing hormone results in the secretion of LH. It provides a unique tool to study the cellular mechanisms involved in gonadotrope function, as well as a model to study the relationship between the control of the cell cycle and the regulation of differentiation.
