Edge Router for Optical Label Switched Network

Tech ID: 11346 / UC Case 2003-200-0

Abstract

Edge router for optical label switched network.

Full Description

Researchers at the University of California, Davis have developed an edge router for optical label switched (OLS) networks. This novel architecture enhances the core network performance, provides a flexible interface to the legacy client networks, and can reduce the packet-loss rate efficiently with negligible additional delay.

Features/Benefits

  • Supports sub-carrier multiplexing (SCM) for optical packet transmission
  • Packet aggregation for traffic shaping
  • Redundant drop port in the egree edge
  • Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) interface to the core OLS network
  • Conversion of legacy traffic to the OLS format
  • Quality of service aware (QoS-aware) buffer management
